Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
