The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
